Boys Tennis Finish 2nd at MHSAA Regionals

Forest Hills Northern Tennis Shines at MHSAA Division 2 Regional GRAND RAPIDS, MI – Forest Hills Northern boys tennis delivered an outstanding performance at the MHSAA Division 2 Regional, held on their home courts. The Huskies battled through tough competition to earn 21 team points, finishing tied for second place with rival Forest Hills Central and securing a spot at the MHSAA State Finals. Byron Center took the regional title with 27 points, but the Huskies’ depth and resilience were on full display across both singles and doubles flights. Singles Standouts At No. 2 Singles, sophomore Vikram Krishnan led the way, capturing the Regional Championship with commanding straight-set victories in every round, including a 6-2, 6-1 win over Forest Hills Central’s Rei Hitachi in the final. Senior Sebastian Madlangbayan made an impressive run to the championship match at No. 1 Singles, falling to Mona Shores standout Reid Hackney in the final after a strong semifinal win. Sophomore Sam Ogilvie reached the semifinals at No. 3 Singles, showcasing consistency and fight in a hard-fought 6-1, 7-5 battle against eventual finalist Frey Wu of Forest Hills Central. Freshman Virinchi Kakaraparthi also advanced to the semifinals at No. 4 Singles, earning valuable points for Northern with a straight-set quarterfinal victory over Lowell. Doubles Dominance The Huskies’ doubles teams were equally impressive. At No. 1 Doubles, the duo of Thano Bird and Breck Suvedi reached the semifinals, taking a tight 7-6, 6-4 victory over Northview before falling to the eventual champions from Byron Center. At No. 2 Doubles, Ethan Han and Brady Miller powered their way to the semifinals with a 6-3, 6-1 win, while Marcus Bernard and Drew Decker (No. 3 Doubles) and Mikey Hernly and Brooks Kraal (No. 4 Doubles) both reached their respective finals, each contributing key points toward the team’s overall total. Coach Olsen praised the group’s focus and grit throughout the day showing their team effort and State-Bound Determination. The Huskies now turn their attention to the MHSAA Division 2 State Finals in Midland, where they’ll look to continue their strong play and represent Forest Hills Northern with the same grit and composure that they showed at Regionals.
